Free travel this August for Under 16’s

2 days ago Mon 27th Jul 2026

We’re excited to announce that from Saturday 1 August until Monday 31 August we’ll be offering free travel to children aged 15 and under on all our bus routes (excluding football buses).

Free travel

To take advantage of the offer, those aged between 5 and 15 just need to ask the driver for a free ticket when boarding the bus. Children aged 11 or younger need to be accompanied by someone aged 16 or older.

Free travel for under 16’s has been made possible as part of the UK Government's Great British Summer Savings campaign.

Great summer days out by bus

The free travel offer offers the perfect excuse to head out this summer and enjoy a host of exciting and great activities this summer.

Destinations great for the summer that can be reached on our buses include cinemas, swimming pools, parks, Legoland, historic Windsor and more. For inspiration and more details, check out our things to do section here.

As part of the UK Government's Great British Summer Savings campaign, details of savings on a wide range of activities which can be reached by bus can be found on their website here.

Frequently asked questions

Will ID be required?

Our drivers may request proof of age should they be unsure the customer boarding is in the correct age range. Please note that as our Boost scheme is available for young people up to the age of 18, being verified on the app is not valid as proof of age for this scheme.

Can children travel on their own?

Children aged 11 or under should be accompanied by a person aged 16 or over.

What bus routes are included?

All of our bus routes are included with the free travel offer except our football bus services.

Can they travel on London Line 701/702 for free?

Yes, free travel is included on the whole route of our London Line 701/702 services between Reading, Bracknell, Legoland, Windsor, Slough and Central London. It is also valid on flightline 703 services to Heathrow too.

Are any routes excluded?

Only 'special' services are excluded. So for us that means Football buses and buses for Reading Festival. All tickets must be paid for as normal on these services.

How can adults and young people aged 16 and over save on travel this summer?

While the offer is only for children aged under 15, those aged 16 to 18 can still buy our discounted boost ticket. Adults can save money with flexible tickets such as our daysaver5 ticket, or our group ticket, which allows up to 4 people to travel together all day for less. You can find out more about our group ticket here and daysaver5 here.
