We win at the Leadership Awards
Today
We were thrilled to win two awards at the brand-new Leadership in Passenger Transport Awards recently.
The new awards, from the organisers of the prestigious annual UK Bus Awards, aim to celebrate the leaders and managers of the UK’s ground passenger transport industry.
At the awards ceremony at the O2 in London we won two of the four awards that they were shortlisted for.
Tom Ranson
Our Engineering Director, Tom Ranson, won the Infrastructure and Project Management category for his management of the rollout of electric vehicles for our fleet. Tom oversaw a multi-million pound project that could have greatly disrupted operations at the depot with infrastructure needing to be installed and large parts of their yard dug up to connect it all up. Tom managed the project from start to finish, limiting disruption and delivering a high quality fleet of buses that many of you are now benefiting from.
Richard Moxom
Our Operations Manager, Richard Moxom, also won, this time in the Customer Service category. Richard has spent a lot of time looking at customer safety. He has led development of our ‘DriveWell’ scheme which uses a telematics system to help drivers plan better and drive more smoothly. He also masterminded working with Thames Valley Police and It Does Matter to raise awareness of unwanted behaviour and how to report it. The pilot scheme saw information on buses and online with an easy-to-use QR code to quick report anything that people felt was not right. There were also police patrols on buses to show an increased presence to reassure customers with police chatting to people about how they could report any behaviour that was deemed unwanted.
Robert is second-best in the country
Whilst just being pipped to the post, we also celebrate that our Chief Executive Officer, Robert Williams, was runner-up in the hotly contested Passenger Transport Leader of the Year category. This marks Robert out as the second-best manager in the country and is a huge achievement.
We also had a shortlisting for our Commercial Manager, Gemma Redson, in the Innovation and New Thinking Category.
We were delighted to see Tom and Richard recognised for their fantastic work. They both do a great job, and reflect the great team of people that we have at Reading Buses. It's a shame that we couldn't get the clean sweep, but we are happy to be sharing the stage with some fantastic leaders in the industry.
