Travel sustainably this Earth Day!

1 month ago Tue 22nd Apr 2025

Taking place on Tuesday 22 April, Earth Day aims to raise awareness towards the earth’s sustainable environment by educating and informing people worldwide about the environment and sustainable changes that they can make.

One of the easiest ways you can help the environment and make an impact is to consider leaving the car at home and taking the bus instead.

Our range of great value fares can help you save money when you travel with us, whether it's just a single trip into town or a regular commute. Flexible tickets such as easySaver 10 offer 10 single journeys within Reading for just £17.50 (working out to just £1.75 a journey) for example, or if you are making multiple journeys in the same day, great value day tickets such as the £4.00 Reading All-Bus ticket offer unlimited travel around Reading all day. Travelling further on our network? Our single fares are capped at £3, no matter how far you travel. You can also use tap on tap off, an easy way to pay which automatically works out the fare for your journey so you’ll never pay more than a day ticket!,

Our fleet of modern buses includes over 60 bio-gas vehicles which run on bio-methane, produced sustainably from food and animal waste that reduce CO2 emissions by up to 84%*. All the Reading Buses diesel fleet also have engines rated as Euro 6 which means they are the latest technology to reduce the emissions they put out into the air. This all helps to ensure that when you choose to travel with us, you are choosing a more environmentally friendly way to get around.

Many of our double-deck buses seat over 80 passengers, meaning that a full double-decker bus has the potential to take a large number of cars off the road too (over 2km worth!) - helping the local environment, improving air quality and reducing congestion on the roads.

Choosing the sustainable option doesn’t mean giving up on comfort, though – our buses are fitted with USB charging, super-fast Wi-Fi, comfortable seats with great legroom and many of our vehicles even feature tables too!

A zero-emission future

Thanks to Government funding, our fleet will be getting even greener in 2025 as we'll be introducing new zero-emission electric buses to our fleet this summer. These brand-new double-deck buses will be running on our purple 17 and claret 21 routes, helping helping make your journey with us even more sustainable. The new buses will be fitted with features such as air conditioning, comfortable high back seats and wireless & USB charging, making sure that your journey is not only sustainable but comfortable too.

So why not give the bus a try this Earth Day!
