timetable and route changes from Monday 5 January

6 months ago Fri 28th Nov 2025

On Monday 5 January we’ll be making changes and improvements to some of our routes and timetables.

These changes include a new route with an increased frequency serving Kennet Island and additional buses to Theale.

new service for Kennet Island

From 5 January, we will be making big improvements to services to and from Kennet Island in response to customer feedback about the changes we made in September. New greenwave 50a will replace the ruby 10.

Running from Central Reading, greenwave 50a will run along the A33 to Rose Kiln Lane, before serving Gillette Way (for Morrisons and Royal Mail) and Kennet Island, and then will continue onwards to Green Park. 50a journeys towards Reading will follow this route in the opposite direction.

On weekday mornings, all greenwave buses towards Reading will run as greenwave 50a providing a fast and frequent service from Kennet Island to town every 12 minutes. Towards Green Park, all greenwave buses will run as greenwave 50 providing a fast and frequent service from Reading to Green Park.

On weekday evenings, the opposite pattern will apply.

Outside these times on weekdays, every other greenwave bus will run as a greenwave 50 or greenwave 50a, providing a half-hourly service to and from Kennet Island.

All evening and Saturday greenwave buses will run as greenwave 50a. Saturdays will see an increased frequency to Green Park of every 30 minutes.

changes to greenwave 50

The Monday to Friday peak frequency will now be every 12 minutes. Off peak will remain every 15 minutes, and Saturdays will be improved to every 30 minutes.

Some journeys will run as route 50a via Kennet Island at off-peak times to improve connectivity along the A33 corridor.

changes to sky blue 15

We’re also making changes to our sky blue 15 route between Tilehurst and Calcot.

Between Central Reading, Dee Park, and Tilehurst, buses will continue to run up to every 20 minutes on Monday to Saturdays with minor changes to the timetable, and an improved late evening service to Dee Park.

Only one bus each hour will now continue from Tilehurst to Calcot Sainsburys to better reflect demand, but this will include an extension to Arlington Business Park and Theale.

Sky blue buses that only run as far as Tilehurst will be renumbered to sky blue 15a, and after St Michael's Road in Tilehurst, will run back to Reading via School Road and Mayfair, restoring a service to this area.

On Sundays, all buses will continue run as sky blue 15 to Calcot Sainsburys.

changes to school routes 88/89

From 5 January route 89 will be discontinued due to low usage, with route 88 adjusted in Tilehurst to cover the majority of stops. The small number of students using route 89 from Pangbourne and Tidmarsh should contact West Berkshire Council regarding alternative provision.

bus stop change in Coley Park

Following the major construction work in Coley Park, the Coley Park Terminus stop at the end of Wensley Road will be reopening, allowing buses on bronze 11 to start and finish here, no longer serving Lesford Road. There will be no change to the timetable.
