thank you to all our wonderful employees
We would like to say a huge "thank you" to all our wonderful employees for keeping the buses running for key workers as well as for others to do essential journeys to access food shops during the Coronavirus situation.
Our employees are demonstrating a magnificent and responsible attitude during this extremely difficult period and we are extremely proud of the whole team.
We have of course, many of our own key workers such as drivers, engineers, cleaners, and the back office support teams who are continuing to provide vital passenger transport links. We have also seen many of our employees volunteer for furlough to help reduce our costs. Some of our employees have even volunteered for reduced pay or hours to ensure that other colleagues could continue to work, and to try and make sure that the company survives the crisis. We do not receive any subsidies from local authorities (other than to run certain contracted routes) and so with the drop in customer numbers of around 90%, reducing costs, and therefore the number of buses we run, is the main activity we can do so we continue to operate.
As many office-based staff as possible are working from home following government guidelines. Where employees need to come to work, we are maintaining social distancing wherever possible.
In spite of the challenges, there is great camaraderie amongst our workforce, with the team continuing to go about their jobs with good humour. We know how brilliant our employees are and they have been working for each other, and for our customers. We couldn't ask for better people.
So again, thank you to our employees, you are all superstars.
wonderful customers too
It's not just our employees we want to thank, it's also our lovely customers. We have see so many wonderful comments on our social media feeds, as people recognise the difficult situation we find ourselves in and have praised our workforce for continuing to provide bus services without any immediate government funding helping to support routes.
We know that for some people who are still commuting with us, the reduced service can mean longer waiting times for buses than normal, but that the vast majority of people understand that this is necessary to ensure that we can continue to run buses into the future, something that we are determined to do.
staying safe and healthy
We are mindful that whilst we have an important role to play in transporting other key workers around the town, we have to keep our employees and customers safe and healthy. We have introduced many measures to ensure this, including:
- An enhanced cleaning regime including extra cleaning of poles, stop buttons and the driver's cab
- Hand sanitiser for all drivers
- Reminding customers and employees to wash their hands for 20 seconds with soap and warm water at regular intervals
- Advice to customers about staying safe and healthy including boarding one at a time and maintaining social distancing
- Prioritising the use of buses with screens in the driver's cab
- Prioritising the use of buses with 'hoppers' to limit cash handling - and encouraging customers to pay cashlessly where possible
A big thank you to everyone for their continued support and we look forward to welcoming you all back on board soon.
