Switch to the bus for World Earth Day!

2 months ago Wed 22nd Apr 2026

World Earth Day is taking place on Wednesday, 22 April, helping to educate and raise awareness about sustainable changes you can make to help improve the environment.

switch to the bus

One of the easiest ways to help the environment is to leave the car at home and take the bus instead.

Our modern fleet features 24 brand-new electric buses (with 8 more coming very soon) and over 70 low-emission biogas buses, meaning when you travel with us, you are choosing the zero or low-emission, environmentally friendly option.

All our brand-new electric buses produce zero emissions, while our biogas buses run on bio-methane, produced from food and animal waste which helps reduce emissions by up to 84%*.

Whilst we do still also operate a diesel bus fleet, all of our modern diesel buses are Euro 6 rated, taking advantage of the latest technology to help reduce the emissions put back out into the air around them.

Many of our double-deck buses can carry over 80 passengers when full. This means that one double-deck bus has the potential to take over 2km worth of cars off the road, reducing congestion and improving the local environment.

But it’s not just carbon emissions our buses can help reduce, too. Our electric buses are near silent, which means less noise pollution on our roads and in the local environment too.

rising fuel costs

Switching to the bus doesn’t just help the earth, it can help your pocket too.

With fuel costs continuing to rise, leaving your car at home and switching to the bus can also be a great way to save money.

Our range of great value tickets means that no matter how you travel, there’s a ticket that works for you.

If you need to travel almost every day of the week, our 7 day simplyReading ticket offers unlimited travel across the simplyReading zone, working out to as little as £2.86 per day (based on 7 days use).

If you need more flexibility, our daySaver 5 ticket offers 5 all-day tickets that you can use when you need them for just £20. At just £4 a day, this can save you £1.40 off the price of a day ticket when purchased on the bus.

If you only travel occasionally or like to have a bus ticket “just in case”, easySaver 10 offers 10 single tickets to use when you need them for just £20 - that’s just £2 a trip!

Both our daySaver and easySaver tickets are valid for a year after purchase, offering great flexibility - perfect if you want to keep them for a rainy day.

a comfortable environment

Choosing the sustainable option doesn’t mean giving up on comfort either!

Most of our buses offer features such as seatback USB-A and C charging, wireless chargers, super-fast Wi-Fi, comfortable seats with great legroom and tables too. Our electric buses also feature air conditioning, perfect for helping you keep cool on those summer days.

So why not give it a go and switch to the bus today?
