International Museum Day

Thursday 18 May is International Museum Day. This day is dedicated to celebrating and highlighting the important role that museums play in society.
With plenty to choose from in Reading and the local area, why not celebrate this day by planning a trip to one of them? We have put together a list of some of our favourites that can be reached on our bus routes.
Reading
Reading Museum
Learn about the history of Berkshire at Reading Museum. The museum is home to nearly 500,000 artefacts, including a Victorian copy of the Bayeux Tapestry and the relics of an entire roman town undiscovered for over 1000 years as well as exhibits about more recent history exploring the roots and growth of Reading.
Located at Reading Town Hall, the museum is just around the corner from our Reading Station stops and our Blagrave St stops. Plan your journey
The Museum of English Rural Life
Explore the history of the English countryside and its people at MERL (The Museum of English Rural Life). Featuring galleries, a garden, café and frequent events there is always a wide range of things to do for the whole family.
The Museum of English Rural Life is a five-minute walk from the Crown Place Passage bus stop on claret 21. Plan your journey
Cole Museum of Zoology
Located at the University of Reading, this museum is the home to thousands of skeletons, fossils and models of animals providing insights into the evolution of animals, current and extinct.
Cole Museum of Zoology is a short walk through the University of Reading's Whiteknights campus, in the Health & Life Sciences building. Use the University bus stop on Claret 21, and is open on weekdays. Plan your journey
Ure Museum of Greek Archeology
Located at the University of Reading, the Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology is home to modern artefacts and archives of prehistoric Mediterranean civilizations such as Greek, Egyptian and Roman.
Ure Museum of Greek Archeology is open Tuesday to Thursday 9am-4:30pm, and is a short walk through the University of Reading's Whiteknights campus - located in the Humanities and Social Sciences building. Use the University bus stop on Claret 21. Plan your journey
Museum of Berkshire Aviation
Located on the site of the historical Woodley Airfield dating back to WWII, the Museum of Berkshire Aviation is home to a collection of restored aircraft, pictorial records and archives.
The Museum of Berkshire Aviation is open Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank holidays from 10:30am-5pm and is a short walk from the Herald Way stops on our 13, 14 and 19a and 19c routes. Plan your journey
Newbury
West Berkshire Museum
Located in central Newbury across two historical buildings that date back to the 17th century this museum includes a permanent exhibit about the local area and historical events that took place. The West Berkshire Museum is a short walk from Newbury Wharf on jet black 1. Plan you journey

Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum is one of the must-visit museums of London.
Discover collections on dinosaurs, British wildlife, the natural world and space in the historic building dating back to 1753.

The museum hosts over 2 million objects across all aspects of human creativity. The historical building takes its name Queen Victoria who laid the first foundation stone in 1899, evolving into the gallery we know today.

The Science Museum features a wide range of interactive galleries covering a wide range of scientific topics including space, telecommunications, and computing.
With plenty of hands-on exhibits as well as an IMAX cinema, the Science Museum is fun for all ages.
Royal College of Music Museum
Discover musical history at the Royal College of Music Museum right next to the Royal Albert Hall.
The museum hosts permanent collections of priceless musical artifacts including instruments, paintings as well as manuscripts dating back to the early 16th century.
