We’re working with Reading Community Energy Society (RCES) to help install 609 Solar PV panels onto the North roof of our depot. 

These solar panels are expected to generate around 219,000kWh of renewable electricity every year, which will help power our depot (and our electric buses), helping further reduce our carbon emissions. 

Reading Community Energy Society (RCES) currently operate 23 solar installations around the Reading area, including at schools, community buildings, and local businesses. Together, these sites have helped generate over 3,400MWh of renewable electricity since 2016. 

The installation at our depot would help continue RCES’ mission to expand local renewable energy generation and reinvest profits back into the community through grants and sustainability projects. 

Over 20 years, the new installation on our roof is expected to generate around £188,000 for community initiatives.

These schemes are funded by the sale of shares, which are sold to local residents, with annual returns offered, helping local people take part in community-owned renewable energy while helping Reading move towards a cleaner, greener future.

RCES is hoping to raise £207,000 for the installation of solar panels on our roof. 

Investments start from a minimum of £200, with an annual targeted return of 5% from October 2026, rising to a planned 5.5% from April 2030.

The share offer closes on Tuesday 30 June.
