fares change

1 month ago Thu 16th Dec 2021

As everyone knows, the last two years have been extremely hard for everyone. This has equally been the same for us. Whilst we currently receive some Covid recovery funding, since September it has not been enough to cover the running costs of our network, and so we are having to make the difficult decision to change some fares to help close the gap. Not all our fares will be increasing - for many people, fares will remain the same especially if using our app, and, in a few cases, will decrease.

The new fares will begin from Monday 3 January 2022, which will be the first change for over two years.

the headlines

All the new fares are further down the page sorted by area, but we thought giving the headline changes (or things staying the same!) would help.

  • Most app prices will be frozen - especially the on-the-bus fares
  • no changes to simplyReading or simplyNetwork group ticket prices
  • no changes to simplyUni prices
  • single fares will generally increase by 10p
  • return/day ticket will generally increase by 20p
  • the simplyReading 7 day, easysaver 10 and daysaver5 tickets will be frozen at £16 on the app and online
  • simplyNetwork tickets will now be valid across all Reading Buses and Thames Valley Buses services with just a few exceptions
  • A new simplyWokingham & Reading zone is introduced to provide better value for money for Wokingham, Burghfield and Sonning Common residents who travel into Reading
  • The simplyReading zone is extended to Sonning to allow customers to use Thames Valley Buses services 127/8/9
  • Adult tickets on Winnersh Triangle park & ride will be frozen. Boost singles and returns will increase

For routes with graduated fares (i.e. different fares based on where you travel to/from) see below.

We will also have a new map of all our fare zones soon.

simplyReading

Our main area. The simplyReading zone covers most of our buses apart from sections of jet black, lime, leopard, lion, tiger, pink 25, Winnersh Triangle park & ride and Green Line.
