New reduced service on all Reading Buses routes from Mon 30 Mar

paying for your travel - cashless preferred!

We are doing all we can to keep our customers and employees safe and healthy, and one of the main things we are looking at is limiting the use of cash on our buses.

Most of our routes are exact fare only, but some routes do give change to customers. On these routes, we are temporarily going to stop accepting cash from Monday 30 March. Fewer coins and notes being handled means fewer chances for the virus to spread.

For the exact fare routes, we would still encourage you to pay by other means, whether using a smartcard, contactless bank card or our app.

From Monday 30 March:

  • jet black will be run using 'vaulted' buses which means you will need the exact fare. Cashless payments is still preferred on this service.
  • lime 2/2a buses will no longer accept cash. Please use contactless bank cards, smartcards or our app to pay for your travel.
  • leopard 3/8/9 Will be run mainly as a cashless service although some buses may have 'vaults' (where you put the money in the box in front of the driver) which can be used for exact fare only, however it is safer to assume your bus will no longer accept cash. Please use contactless bank cards, smartcards or our app to pay for your travel.
  • lion 4/X4 will no longer accept cash. Please use contactless bank cards, smartcards or our app to pay for your travel.
  • tiger 7 will be run using 'vaulted' buses which means you will need the exact fare. Cashless payment is preferred on this service anyway.
  • All other Reading Buses routes are exact fare only, but cashless payments are preferred.
