About Reading Buses

You may be familiar with our brightly coloured buses, but you may not be aware of our history and our success story.

We’re proud to have been transporting customers in and around Reading for over 120 years. Yes, there’s a lot of history but we’re committed to giving you a quality bus service with a strong focus on customer service and innovation. Along with our owners, Reading Borough Council (RBC), we’re successfully reducing car dependency for access to the area, both for visitors and residents.

It is this approach which has made us a success story. Our fleet of 147 buses is very environmentally-friendly and includes 60 gas buses, and most of our diesel fleet meets or has been upgraded to meet Euro VI standards, so we’re dramatically improving the air quality for all Reading’s people too. With free WiFi & many USB charging points available on our buses we are making sure our customers can stay connected too!

In recent years we have expanded our operations across Berkshire and have two sister bus companies called Newbury & District and Thames Valley Buses who run a further 29 and 47 buses and coaches respectively. Our Thames Valley Bodyworks & ATF company also offers third party vehicle body repairs and bus & lorry MoT testing.

Our fleet

At Reading Buses we have one of the most modern fleets of single and double deck buses in the country.

Maintenance is carried out by our own team of skilled engineers at our premises in Great Knollys Street. This allows us both to maintain the highest quality standards and to ensure our vehicles are on the road, not awaiting repair or checks.
