Reading has pulled out all the stops this year in terms of festivities!

With all the activities that are taking place, it was difficult to choose a top 5, but here are our favourites!

  1. Reading Santa Run

Reading’s annual Santa Run is back! This event raises thousands of pounds every year for local charities. It attracts runners from all walks of life and abilities who join in the festive fun. There are two main races that take place: the 1K Mini Santa Run – ‘designed for youngsters, buggies with babes, dogs with owners’; and the 5K Town Centre Santa Run - designed for those who want to ‘jog, run or walk along the all road 5K route goes through the heart of Reading’.

When: 9 December

  1. ‘A Christmas Carol’

Award-winning theatre group, Reading Between the Lines put their spin on a Christmas classic. Their reimagining of the immortal ‘A Christmas Carol’ sees office boss Evelyn in her normal bad mood, not helped by her employees cheerful celebrations.  Even worse for Evelyn, over-enthusiastic intern Crystal has adapted ‘A Christmas Carol’ into a play for the party entertainment, but has neglected to cast a Scrooge… How will the world’s grumpiest boss react to acting as… a grumpy boss?

When: 10 - 30 December

Where: South Street Arts Centre

How to get there: It's just a short walk from the town centre where all buses drop off, alternatively use London Street Foot stop on routes such as emerald 5/6 or claret 21.

Rub the lamp, and see what delights will follow! Prepare for enchanting fun at the Hexagon’s annual family pantomime, guest staring CBeebies Justin Fletcher and award winning Paul Morse! Save some money on this outing - our SimplyReading group ticket is just £6 for up to 4 people, any combination of kids and adults from 14 Dec- 7 Jan (and all days during the weekend before)!

  1. My Shadow and Me show

A fun and engaging show designed for children and family audiences. The performance is made out of shadows and reflected light. My Shadow and Me is like a cartoon created live out of nothing but darkness and light. One person (and his shadow) meet and go on an incredible, imaginative, shadowy journey where creatures emerge, engage and transform beautifully’. Remember, our SimplyReading group ticket is perfect for your family outings!

  1. The Snow Show

A traditional Christmas choir, the cast of the Snow Queen, ‘music, magic, carols, dance and the full Christmas spirit will greet the audience of the “The Snow Show” on December 22 at 4.30pm in Reading town centre. Father Christmas will also drop by in his sleigh in to see the Elves and meet the friendly children of Reading.’ This is great family-friendly free event is really easy to get to by bus!
