Reading Half Marathon 2025

The Reading Half Marathon takes place this year on Sunday 23 March.

As ever, large numbers of runners are expected to take part in the race, running through many areas of the town – with road closures and additional traffic causing cancellations, delays and curtailments to the service in the hours before, during and following the race.

The table below shows how the race will affect each of our services on the day and is based on the current, known information of road closures. As always, this list is subject to short-notice changes on the day.

We appreciate your patience during this time, while our drivers work hard to do what they can to help get you where you need to be! They will serve the bus stops on the diversionary routes wherever possible.

Newbury to Reading

Journeys between 8.35am and 12.25pm will follow their normal route until the Bath Road/Burghfield Road stop and then divert via Honey End Lane, The Meadway, Dee Road, Grovelands Road, Oxford Road, and Chatham Street to drop off at Greyfriars Road stop FG and Reading Station Southwest Interchange .


Reading to Newbury

Journeys between 8.55am and 12.55pm will start from Reading Station Southwest Interchange stop WN and then run via the IDR, Oxford Road, Grovelands Road, Dee Road, The Meadway and Honey End Lane, returning to the normal route from the Honey End Lane stop on Bath Road.

Burghfield Common to Reading

Journeys between 8.45am and 12.35pm will follow their normal route until the Bath Road/Burghfield Road stop and then divert via Honey End Lane, The Meadway, Dee Road, Grovelands Road, Oxford Road, and Chatham Street to drop off at Greyfriars Road stop FG and Reading Station Southwest Interchange.

Reading to Burghfield Common

Journeys between 9.35am and 1.05pm will start from Reading Station Southwest Interchange stop WN and then run via the IDR, Oxford Road, Grovelands Road, Dee Road, The Meadway and Honey End Lane, returning to the normal route from the Honey End Lane stop on Bath Road.

Arborfield to Reading

Journeys between 8.50am and 12.50pm will follow their normal route until Brookers Hill and will then run via B3270 Lower Earley Way, Beeston Way, Rushey Way, Chalfont Way, Elm Lane, Wilderness Road, Wokingham Road, and Forbury Road to Reading Station.

Reading to Arborfield

Journeys between 8.45am and 1.10pm from Reading Station will be diverted via Forbury Road, Kings Road, Wokingham Road, Wilderness Road, Elm Road, Elm Lane, Chalfont Way, Rushey Way, Beeston Way and Lower Earley Way B3270, returning to the normal route at Brookers Hill.

Bracknell to Reading

The 7.56am from Keephatch Gardens and journeys from Bracknell between 8.50am and 12.53pm will follow their normal route until Reading College when they will be diverted via Forbury Road and Blagrave Street to Reading Station stop EM

Reading to Bracknell

Journeys between 9.05am and 12.35pm will start from Reading Station stop EM and divert via Forbury Road, returning to the normal route from the Huntley & Palmers stop.

Northumberland Avenue to Reading

All journeys between 8.03am and 1.31pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Northumberland Avenue will be the 1.51pm service.

Reading to Northumberland Avenue

All journeys between 7.45am and 1.05pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Reading will be at 1.25pm from Station Road.

All journeys between 8.18am and 1.20pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Engineers Court will be at 1.40pm.

Reading to Whitley Wood

All journeys between 8.00am and 12.55pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Reading will be at 1.13pm from Station Road.

All journeys between 7.48am and 1.43pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Reading will be the 2.13pm from St Mary's Butts.

Kennet Island to Reading

All journeys between 8.02am and 2.02pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Gillette Way will be at 2.28pm.

All journeys between 9.30am and 2.00pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Coley Park Terminus will be at 2.30pm.

Reading to Coley Park

All journeys between 9.15am and 1.15pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Reading will be the 1.45pm service from Friar Street.

The 8.42am Water Tower to Reading journey and journeys between 9.20am and 12.30pm from Calcot (Sainsbury's) to Reading will follow their normal route until the George Street stop and will then divert via Chatham Street to drop off at Greyfriars Road stop FG and Reading Station Southwest Interchange.

Reading to Water Tower / Calcot (Sainsbury's)

Journeys between 9.15 and 12.45pm will start from Reading Station Southwest Interchange stop WN and then divert via the IDR to the normal route from the George Street stop.

Journeys between 8.35am and 12.10pm will follow their normal route until the George Street stop and will then divert via Chatham Street to drop off at Greyfriars Road stop FG and Reading Station Southwest Interchange.

Reading to Purley

Journeys between 9.00am and 1.00pm will start from Reading Station Southwest Interchange stop WN and then divert via the IDR to the normal route from the George Street stop.

Wokingham Road to Tilehurst

The 8.46am, 9.06, 9.24am and 9.40am from Central Reading to Tilehurst will start from a temporary bus stop in Chatham Street (no other journeys will serve this stop).

The 8.41am, 9.01am, 9.16am and 9.30am to 12.40pm journeys from Wokingham Road will follow their normal route until Eldon Road, then divert via Forbury Road to serve Station North Interchange stop NC, and then run via the IDR to return to the normal route from the George Street stop.

Tilehurst to Wokingham Road

The 8.57am, 9.22am and 9.59am from Friar Street to Wokingham Road will start from Greyfriars Road stop FG, returning to their normal route at Huntley & Palmers.

The 8.49am, 9.09am, 9.19am , and 9.29am to 12.57pm from the Water Tower to Wokingham Road will use their normal route until the George Street stop and will then be diverted via Chatham Street, to serve Greyfriars Road stop FG and Station North Interchange stop NB before return to their normal route at Huntley & Palmers.

Buses leaving Kenavon Drive between 9.00am and 12.00am will run via Reading Station North Interchange stop NC/ND instead of Friar Street, Greyfriars Road and Caversham Road.

Tilehurst Triangle to Kenavon Drive

Buses leaving Tilehurst between 9.28am and 12.33pm will divert via Reading Station North Interchange stop NA instead of Caversham Road, Friar Street, Blagrave Street, Jacksons Corner & Huntley & Palmers.

All journeys between 11.30am and 1.35pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from University Chancellors Way will be at 1.50pm.

Reading to University

All journeys between 11.30am and 1.15pm will not run due to road closures during the race. The first service from Reading Station stop EK will be at 1.30pm.

Lower Earley to Reading

The 7.25am and 8.25am Lower Earley to Reading journeys will use their normal route until Kendrick Student Village and will then serve Crown Street and Bridge Street instead of London Street and Duke Street. Journeys between 8.42am and 12.44pm from Lower Earley to Reading will follow their normal route until then Wychwood Crescent stop when they will divert via Wilderness Road, Wokingham Road, King’s Road, and Forbury Road to Station stop EK.

Reading to Lower Earley

Journeys between 9.00am and 12.55pm will be diverted via Forbury Road, Wokingham Road and Wilderness Road returning to their normal route at Wychwood Crescent bus stop.

Journeys between 8.46am and 12.46pm will terminate at Station North Interchange stop NB and not continue to Friar Street. 
 

Reading to Caversham Park

Journeys between 9.30am and 1.30pm will start from Reading Station North Interchange stop NB.

Between 8.45am and 12.45pm journeys will start from Reading Station North Interchange stop NA.

Journeys between 8.55am and 1.55pm will follow their normal route until the Holybrook Crescent stop and then divert via Bath Road, Honey End Lane, The Meadway, Dee Road, Grovelands Road, Oxford Road, Chatham Street, Caversham Road, Vastern Road, Forbury Road and to Reading Station stop EK. 

Reading to Calcot (IKEA)

Journeys between 8.40am and 1.40pm will start from Reading Station stop EK and then run via the Vastern Road, Caversham Road, Chatham Street, Oxford Road, Grovelands Road, Dee Road, The Meadway, Honey End Lane, and Bath Road returning to the normal route from the Holybrook Crescent stop.

Reading to Henley

Journeys between 9.35am and 12.25pm will start from Reading Station North Interchange stop NC/ND.

Between 8.27am and 12.30pm journeys from Stratford Way will use their normal route until the Dryland House stop and will then be diverted via Dee Road, Grovelands Road, Oxford Road, and Chatham Street to Greyfriars Road stop FG and Reading Station Southwest Interchange.

Reading to Turnhams Farm

Between 9.00am and 12.55pm journeys will start from Reading Station Southwest Interchange stop WN and divert via Oxford Road, Grovelands Road and Dee Road returning to the normal route from the Dryland House stop.

All journeys between 7.36am and 1.30pm will be cancelled due to road closures during the race. The first service from Reading the 2.30pm from St Mary's Butts.

Mereoak Park & Ride to Reading

All journeys between 8.00am and 2.02pm will be cancelled due to road closures during the race. The first service from Mereoak will be the 3.02pm service.

Reading to Slough

The 9.40am service will run via Forbury Road after Reading Station resuming it's normal route from Huntley & Palmers.
