Reading Buses Virtual Open Day

2 weeks ago Thu 10th Sep 2020

This year, Heritage Open Days are opening their doors virtually from 11-20 September so you can have a sneak peek behind the scenes at some of the UKs best architecture, local history, and culture. We loved the sound of this, and, as one of Reading’s oldest businesses, we wanted to get involved!

Many of you know and love our Open Day, held every year to raise money for our charity of the year, which this year is Sport in Mind.

Why virtual?

We had to cancel this event this year due to COVID-19, which was a huge disappointment to us. But fear not! Taking a page out of Heritage Open Days book, we have thrown our doors open to you virtually so you can still experience some of the fun of seeing what we do to keep your buses running.

So here it is; welcome everyone, to our amazing depot!

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the most popular bits from our open day including:

  • The bus wash – a ride through the wash is one of the favourite open day attractions, we take a look at how we keep our buses squeaky clean and use rainwater, and recycled water, to help the environment
  • The control room – a look behind the scenes to see how we keep our buses on time and how we keep Reading moving
  • The engineering workshop tour – see the engine of a bus and view our ‘station in the sky’ – the gas station up in the air which helps compress the gas to fill compressed natural gas (CNG) buses.
  • The buses – a line-up of Reading’s multi-coloured buses.

All from the comfort and safety of your own home!

To view all the videos, you can either keep an eye on our social media accounts or visit our YouTube page here.

If you enjoy the videos as well as seeing some of the 21st century techniques that help keep Reading on the move, you can donate £2 by texting SIM 2 to 70085. All money raised will go to Sport in Mind, the sports mental health charity.

Fingers crossed we’ll get you see you all in person at our Open Day 2021… we can’t wait!
