£2 maximum single fare

1 year ago Wed 21st Dec 2022

We are excited to announce that we will be continuing to offer £2 single fares until 31 December 2024.

Providing great value, £2 singles fares will be valid on all journeys across the Reading Buses, Thames Valley Buses, London Line 701/702, Flightline 703 and Newbury & District networks including Flightline 730 and 731 - with the only exceptions being on football buses and buses allocated for school travel.

Part of the government's help for households initiative, the scheme is designed to help families, commuters and other passengers continue to save money this summer, backed by £60 million of government investment. We are one of over 130 bus companies across England taking part.

The scheme also seeks to encourage more commuters on buses and help to reduce emissions and congestion by taking an estimated 2 million cars off the roads.

how does it work?

It's quite simple really! When travelling with us, until 31 December 2024 the maximum single fare you can pay on our buses will be £2* - this ticket will be available on our app or from the driver on bus. This fare is applicable from anywhere to anywhere on a single journey - so you could get from Reading to Newbury, Bracknell to Wokingham or even from Slough to London for just  £2!

The ticket is available on the Reading Buses, Newbury & District, Windsor Express and Thames Valley apps alongside our other great value fares.

Travel often and want to save even more? In the simplyReading area you can buy an easysaver10 (10 single tickets bought together) for just £17.50 which is just £1.75 per trip! And our range of period tickets (7/30/90/365 day) may represent even better value if you travel more than five days a week or on multiple buses.

*except football and school buses

what do I do if I already have a period ticket?

For many people, a 7/30/90/365 day, easysaver10 or daysaver5 ticket will continue to represent better value than the capped £2 fare. If, however, you feel that you still want to get a refund for an existing ticket, you can of course request that. Our normal refund policy applies for this.

You can contact our customer services team, or visit our bus shop in the Broad Street Mall, Reading, but please note that our usual terms and conditions for refunds apply. All refunds are calculated retrospectively based on the unused portion of your ticket and also have a £10 administrative fee for any refunds that are processed.
