We welcome Autism Berkshire

We can now officially reveal that our Charity of the Year for 2018 is Autism Berkshire!

how did we choose Autism Berkshire?

Each year we receive a huge amount of applications to be our Charity of the Year and this year was no different.
A charity panel has the unenviable task of producing a shortlist of three charities that then go to a staff vote.
This year over half of all our employees voted, with Autism Berkshire receiving more than half of the vote.

the big reveal

We introduced the charity to the world at an event at our depot on Friday 26 January where we unveiled their charity bus that will now promote their charity around the town.

A photo call in front of the bus with the charity preceded speeches from Reading Buses' Chief Executive Officer, Martijn Gilbert, and a Trustee of Autism Berkshire, Sandra Stubbs.

This is the first part of advertising and partnership activity between us and the charity and begins a year long process of giving Autism Berkshire a boost for both funds and awareness.

We can't wait to support Autism Berkshire with on-bus screens and posters, stories on our website, eNewsletter and social media amongst other activities and events.

Autism Berkshire is a fantastic charity which helps so many people throughout the region which we are increasingly covering with our new routes in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead as well as from our main operating bases in Reading and Newbury.

keep an eye out for activities and events

Over the course of the year, we (and our lovely employees) will be organising plenty of fundraising activity to try and ensure Autism Berkshire gains much needed funds. Keep an eye out for any appeals we have (usually a member of staff doing an activity such as racing or skydiving!) and donate if possible. We will obviously be having our annual Open Day again this year and we hope that even more of you attend than ever to help us break more records this year! There will also be plenty of other activities and events that we will be involved with - so keep checking our website and social media for details!

Who are autism Berkshire?

Let's hear about Autism Berkshire in their own words:

Autism Berkshire was founded as the Berkshire Autistic Society in 1990 by a group of parents of children with autism, related conditions and challenging behaviours.

Today we are the leading autism charity in Berkshire and deliver quality specialist services, training and social and leisure activities throughout the county, guided by a team of trustees with personal and professional experience of autism.

Our mission is to help and support anyone living with autism in Berkshire. We aim to enhance the current provision of services and support, with the purpose of improving the quality of life of people with autism and giving them maximum independence.
