Thank you!

A big thank you!

We’ve been shortlisted for four national awards.

It’s an ‘honour’ to be shortlisted for the prestigious UK Bus Awards which recognise people, service innovation and technology.

This reflects the hard work and focus of our team who remain committed to delivering the best services possible to our customers in an ever changing and challenging world.

The award categories are:

Making Buses a better choice

New horizons

Top national Bus driver – Maks Pruszewicz

Young manager of the Year – Dan Bassett

In the first category, for Making buses a better choice, the Peter Huntley memorial award, we’ve been shortlisted for reinvigorating their orange and royal blue services.

Both routes have seen comprehensive makeovers, including new super-environmentally friendly double deck gas buses and super-lightweight, fuel-efficient Wright StreetDeck buses with engine start-stop technology.

A total overhaul including bus stops, a marketing campaign and re-routing of orange services has resulted in 5.74% growth.  Royal blue, with its new gas buses, has experienced 23% growth.

The New Horizons award is for technology and innovation to make the bus better and we’re determined to make the bus the clear transport of choice in Reading and surrounding areas.

We’ve invested in people and technology, and are bucking industry trends for patronage to become one of the few networks in growth with 12.8% more customers.

We’ve adapted to a fast changing world through embracing digital technology, innovation and future thinking to keep services at the forefront of urban mobility and breaking new ground to deliver benefits for the whole bus industry.

Maks Pruszewicz is the Reading Buses candidate for Top National Bus Driver, being our current Driver of the Year as well as our overall Star of the Year, having being crowned in January against all 580 of its employees.

Maks, 56, who is from Calcot, has a strong history of driving and customer roles, chalking up zero accidents in three years, zero sickness in five years and a huge pile of customer compliments.

Young Manager of the Year candidate, Dan Bassett, is the key ingredient to making Reading Buses operations run smoothly, say the company.

Dan, 29, who won silver in this category last year, has made changes to the business which has resulted in reliability and punctuality improving.

Under his leadership, a whole network in Newbury was mobilised within just five weeks and there are 17% fewer accidents per 100,000 miles.

Dan has achieved this by making changes to the business to ensure he is getting the best out of all his employees, with a huge focus on the end customer.
