About UsReading BusesReading Buses is a trading name of Reading Transport Ltd. The Company, established following the Transport Act of 1985, is wholly owned by Reading Borough Council. If our towns are to remain pleasant places in which to live, we must all find ways of being less dependent on the car. For many journeys public transport is not only the more environmentally friendly choice, but also the convenient and efficient way to travel. Travelling with Reading BusesCatching a BusAll our stops are clearly marked (but remember that some buses go to different destinations from the same stop, please check the number on the front of the bus to ensure it is the correct one for you). Simply signal to the driver that you wish the bus to stop. The doors open automatically once the bus is stationary. Let other customers get off first. Once onboard state your destination and, wherever possible, have the correct money as no change is given and this minimises any delay. Your ticket or TravelCard should be retained throughout your journey as proof of payment. Travelling Further AfieldMany bus services serve Reading Station and also serve the shopping centre. The stops at the station allow excellent connections, not only to all parts of the country served by rail, and the Railair Heathrow Airport link, but also to buses serving other parts of the town, and surrounding areas Why Use a Bus?Each bus carries between 20 - 93 customers and represents a much more efficient use of both road space and fossil fuels. For many journeys nothing could be simpler. With aproximately 450 conveniently placed bus stops in the area, you will not have far to walk to your nearest boarding point. The wide network of services available is designed to cater not only for journeys to work or school, but also for shopping and leisure trips. Evening services will allow you to enjoy a night on the town without worrying about drinking and driving. How to use the bus40% of people in the UK never use the bus. Many say they don't know how or don't know what bus to catch. Conversely many people who used the bus for the first time said they thought it was much easier than they had imagined. Others also said they hadn't been too sure what to expect or how to find out more. We have produced a useful guide on how to use the bus. The guide takes you through the seven easy steps to using the bus and also answers some frequently asked questions. To view a pdf version of this valuable leaflet. Our Pledge to You
